Cystectomy

The presence of a cyst in the oral cavity may be caused by various factors: dental trauma, developmental disturbances of the teeth, residual tooth roots or persisting pulpitis, caused by untreated caries.

The cyst cannot disappear by itself, not even when its cause is treated. It needs to be surgically removed, otherwise it will continue growing. Unfortunately, cysts are often recurrent and, in such cases, the cystectomy must be repeated. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. After the surgery, the patient is prescribed an antibiotic and some analgesics. The patient returns to the practice for a recall and stitches removal one week after surgery.
