Retainers are splints worn during the phase of orthodontic retention, which is also the final phase of the orthodontic treatment. Given that the teeth maintain the tendency to move back to their natural positions, the goal of the retention phase is to hold them in their new, orthodontically corrected positions. A retainer is worn after the removal of braces. In the first stages, it is worn every night, but in time, its placement is reduced to only one night a week. It is accustomed to believe that the retainer is worn at least twice as long as the brace. In some cases, however, it needs to be worn permanently.

This phase of the orthodontic treatment mustn’t be disregarded. Keep in mind that you will not be able to keep your beautiful new smile without getting through the retention phase.
